Invite Someone to a Sunday Service!

Inviting others to church can feel daunting at times. Below are some practical tips and tools for how to invite others, in a casual, friendly, and easy way.

Tips for Inviting Others

1. Be Yourself

Don’t overthink it! Use words that feel natural to how you usually talk.

2. Think of Other Circles of People

Invite people from communities you’re involved in outside of church, like:

  • Teams at work

  • Neighbors

  • Interest-based groups

  • Group text threads

  • Family chat threads

3. Consider Both In-Person or Online

Some ways you can invite people (including virtually) include:

  • During a hangout or conversation

  • Text or call

  • Email

  • Social media DM or message

  • Share Forward’s social media posts (@forwardchurchirvine on Facebook, Instagram, etc.)

  • Post on social media news feeds, groups, or stories

4. Identify a Need

Think about a specific issue the person may be looking for answers about or struggling with, and speak to that.

A Note on Responses

If they accept, that’s great! Attend the Sunday Service along with the person you invited. Then check in with them afterwards on their thoughts. Invite them to go to lunch or coffee with you after service, if you are able to. If they decline, don’t feel bad! Continue to establish a relationship with the person, and keep praying for them.

Hi [name]! Let me know if you’re open to checking out the church I go to, this Sunday at 1:30pm. It’s called Forward Church, it’s in Irvine and I’ve been coming here for a bit and love it. Would you be interested in coming this Sunday?

If they answer in the affirmative:

You can also check out our website for more info: www.forwardchurchirvine.com; there will be plenty of signs showing you how to get to the church on Sunday! Text me when you’re on the way! 

 
If they ask about children’s programming: 
 
That’s great, glad you asked. Our church provides children’s programming during the service for kids ages 3-10. The kids learn about Jesus in a fun, clean, safe environment and we have a chance to listen to a great, life changing message of hope. We also have a nursery available in case you need that as well. Text me when you’re on the way so I can save you a seat!
